about me

Since 1994, I have been covering business, corporate and consumer finance, technology, and workplace trends, among other topics. My work has appeared in AARP: The Magazine, American Way, Business Finance, Christian Science Monitor, Continental, Inc., Woman's Day, as well as a variety of consumer and trade publications.

Prior to 1994, I was working as a financial analyst with a large hospitality and marketing firm. After several years, I realized that I liked writing about numbers more than I enjoyed actually crunching them.

I jumped into the world of freelancing. Since then, I've learned quite a bit about a range of topics. For instance, for several recent stories, I've researched the growing numbers of tuners, or young car drivers who buy moderately priced cars and "trick them out" with performance tires, European-style lights and other accessories; talked with several brave employees who were 50+ when they took jobs outside the U.S.; and learned about one company's application of the German philosophy of "verbund," which roughly translates to "total integration."

I earned my M.B.A. from the University of Washington and my B.S. in business administration from Valparaiso University.

I am a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors. In 2001, a story I wrote on the value of persistence in business success earned a Maggie Award from the Western Publications Association.
