About

I cover money, business, and corporate and consumer finance, among other topics, for a range of print and online publications.  My work has appeared in AARP: The Magazine, American Way, Business Finance, CFO, CFOWorld.com, Continental, Inc., and Mainstreet.com, along with many other consumer and trade publications. I've written articles, whitepapers, blog posts, and case studies for a roster of corporate clients. I'm also hard at work on my first novel.

Before freelancing, I worked as a financial analyst with a large hospitality and marketing firm and as a budget manager with a real estate firm. After years spent crunching numbers, I realized I would enjoy writing about them.

Since switching careers, I've learned quite a bit about a range of topics. These include the growing numbers of women farmers, our ever-changing healthcare system, and the challenges facing several brave individuals who were 50-plus when they took jobs outside the U.S.  Many of my articles cover changes in regulations at the IRS, SEC, FASB, DOL, and other agencies, and the impact they're likely to have on both businesses and consumers.  I enjoy the opportunities I have to talk with individuals who are experts in their fields and are passionate about their companies and careers.

I have an M.B.A. from the University of Washington, and a B.S. in business administration from Valparaiso University. I'm a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors.

When I’m not at my computer (usually working, with occasional trips to social media sites), I’m hanging out with my family and friends, swimming, or enjoying a good book. On my nightstand at the moment: Secrets to Happiness by Sarah Dunn and Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
